THE AWAKENING
There was a time when I hated to write… but that was a long time ago. All of life, the good, the bad, and the ugly, contribute to the stories of our lives. I tell a couple of stories from my checkered life and how I came to love and embrace what I once loathed over at my friend Dan’s site.
Dan Erickson has published two books that have been my pleasure to read and my heart beats a little faster thinking about them. Dan has a unique style that is all his own, he spins raw words that pack a punch with the beauty of the warrior poet that he is. I hope you can take the time to join me over at Dan’s place today as he kicks off a new weekly series on the benefits of writing.
Check out Dan regularly and pick up his books, you won’t be disappointed. Click for transportation over to Dan’s place.

I left my comment over at Dan’s site. I like the small buttons at the bottom your post over there at Dan’s site. Much prettier than your hanging share thing.

Wish I knew how to change mine, Hazel! But alas, I’m still struggling to learn this stuff! I spent four hours trying to get the link highlighted! Old dogs struggle with new tricks!

Sorry to comment about your hanging share poster. I was out of place. You have improved yur site so very much and your writing too. I know what it is to try to fix something and not be able to work through it.
Keep up the good work my friend.

That’s nothing, Hazel! I would expect us to be close enough to share those type of things. The truth is I should probably be much more savvy at this than I am at this point. I marvel at all that you can do with your computer! Thanks for the kind words, my sister.

If you use WordPress it’s just a simple plugin. You’d probably have to deactivate one and activate another. I can get you the name of the plugin if you like. I do my best to not have anything that pops up or drops down on my site.

It’s called ‘shareahloic.” It’s a simple plugin. There are just a few settings you can manipulate. You can choose which social networks you’d like to include.

Oh Floyd, I’m so glad I read this one today. I have been away. How wonderful, the night the Lord “awakened” you to write, and to write about your dear Dad. What a beautiful story. There is nothing quite like the touching of another’s heart by the words we inscribe in a card, a letter, or a story, am I right? There are times I write to someone, and just know the Lord is guiding my heart and hand. Those are the words that carry the most impact, that touch the most deeply. Your words often touch my heart, Floyd, and I know it’s the Lord writing through you. He has given you a gift, don’t ever doubt that.

I’m with you, Jillie. The words shared in love for another is a gift not just from us, but from our Father… and we are gifted in the giving and sharing. I know you bring comfort and joy to many with your words, Jillie, and I’m blessed to be one of the recipients of that gift. You have an amazing gift of encouragement, sister. Thanks for sharing your generous heart with me, sister. I’m touched. Blessings to you and yours, Jillie.

Floyd, what an incredible story. First, what a shame some teachers use writing as punishment! No wonder kids hate it. And I love how God prompted you to write about your father, and that you obeyed. What a gift you gave him. I wrote what I call a “transcendent thank you letter” to my father. I gave it that name because it was a letter which transcended all others to express deep gratitude for all he had given me throughout his life. He read it word-for-word (though he told my mother that it was too long! Ha!). But I know it meant the world to him. I pulled from that letter too in the eulogy I gave at his funeral. But how much more wonderful that you and I could read these letters and have them read during our fathers’ lifetimes. I would encourage your readers to write letters like these to parents, children, teachers, pastors–ANYONE who means a lot to them and who has positively contributed to their lives. They will never be sorry. Thanks for a wonderful story!
Fondly
Lynn

I agree completely, Lynn. It was a powerful moment and is like an exclamation mark in real life to our loved ones. My dad was honored and I was honored to honor him. He had a profound impact on my life as your dad did you… and we miss them. Thanks for sharing, Lynn. Wonderful advice, thanks.

I’m honored to do it, Dan. It’s good to pull for one another for the higher purpose for which we’re called. The world needs a real voice that speaks to the real issues of life like your books do. Keep up the good work, Dan. I’m with you.
