GIFTS FROM CHRISTMAS PASSED
As Christmas rolls around again I, like the rest of us, naturally contemplate the ones in my rearview mirror of life. I remember my dad and the infinite lessons learned from my heavenly Father through him. What a blessing… I’m honored to recall one of the many lessons learned the hard way over at my dear sister and friend, Mia’s.
The best gifts are the ones that keep giving and can’t be measured by a number. I’ve a hunch that you too have a similar story. Join me at Mia’s and make her site a regular site, you won’t be disappointed in her wisdom and imagery in her profound words.
P.S. the picture of the Mercury Cyclone that Mia found is the exact year and color of my first car… Ahhh, memory lane…

Great Post honoring the wisdom learned from your Dad. NO to the boat, but when it was time, approving the first car.

Thanks, Hazel. Common sense isn’t so common anymore. Thanks for sharing your sense and wisdom with as many who will listen. Count me as one of them who is listening!

Hey there, Floyd…..Just skipped over to Mia’s place and read your guest post. Your Dad sounds like such a tremendous man of God! His wisdom was such a gift to you, probably, I imagine, at an age when you might not have appreciated the full gift of it. But you certainly do now. So kind of him to hedge around the “no” to the boat, and then to tell you how proud of you he was, when you purchased the car instead. And I can tell you were happier with your later-coming purchase, as opposed to the “simply wanting” of the boat. Isn’t it “interesting” how we are “visited” with the wisdom of our parents for really, the remainder of our lives…things they taught us, kindness at our youthful impetuousness, flat-out “No’s!” when we’re ready to embark on something foolish. Even those who are really quite bad at parenting manage somehow to instil some kind of wisdom along the way. I was so totally blessed just this past weekend when my daughter, who gave us a real run for our money when she was a teen, told me how much she appreciated our tough love in those times when she was wandering off the narrow road. She said, “THAT is real love, when you and Dad made me sit and talk things out, telling me I was wrong in doing some of the things I did! Giving it to me straight!” WOW! At those times, I feared she would hate me forever, and then she says something like that! I didn’t know what to say in return, but I thanked God for the wisdom he gave me and my husband in those times. And the grace to say the really hard things to her.
I love the image you gave of your Dad’s Bible. A Bible that’s falling apart, signifies a life that isn’t. Thank you for this today, my Friend.

What a wonderful gift to receive from your daughter! There’s proof that the wisdom passed on to you and your husband was well spent on another of our Father’s children. It doesn’t get any better than that! Love that quote too, Jillie, “A Bible that’s falling apart, signifies a life that isn’t.” Powerful words and reminder, sister. God bless and Merry Christmas to your whole clan.

Great post over at Mia’s, Floyd. I tried to comment over there, but I must not have an account to comment on wordpress.com sites. Great memories and lessons. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

Thanks, Betty. You know by now how much I value wisdom, and when I see it in others it makes me think, search, and grow wiser. Thanks for spreading your wisdom here, sister. Merry Christmas to you and all of yours.

And grow you have brother…what a heritage you have to draw from. Add that to the wisdom you have gained from your walk with the Lord…thanks for letting it spill out of your soul, out your fingers onto the pages of your blog. It’s always refreshing to stop by and see what new story God has brought to mind as you live out your life for Him.

I appreciate your uplifting and eloquent words, Betty. Not sure I’m as far down the road of maturity as I should be, but you make me want to get there, sister. Bless your wonderful heart.

Floyd, great post over at Mia’s. I left one of my long-winded, out of left-center field comments over there.
God bless.

Don’t burden yourself, sister! You popping in to say “hi” is a shot in the arm! We have quite a close knit far away group of family in Christ, don’t we? We are blessed. Thanks, Joanne!
