DUMB KIDS

They were cool… Oh yeah, I mean really cool. So cool in fact I wanted to go over and slap em’ both. Dumb kids. They pulled up in a nice, fairly new half ton Chevy pickup. They looked all of about 12 or 13 years old, but they were obviously old enough to drive. The two boys, desperately trying to be men, seemed to think that in order to attain manhood status they had to act like disrespectful idiots.

Unfortunately for me, they decided to sit close to me after they picked up their food from the counter. The driver who weighed all of 100 pounds soaking wet decided to give me the Big Eye… I was a dumb kid, I’ll be the first to admit it, but these kids took stupidity to a whole new level.

Until I met the punk’s gaze with aggravated intention, he wouldn’t stop… Thereafter he never glanced my way again…

They picked up their food walking through the place talking to one another, they weren’t happy with the service, “How hard is it”? the driver asked his buddy. To which he promptly responded, “I don’t f….n’ know dude”! They were experts… After all, they’d obviously never worked a day in their lives, so being an expert at something they’ve never done qualified them to pass judgment and belittle the Hispanic workers that someone must have taught them were below them.

“Those cheap bas…rds”! the driver complained after biting into his breakfast. These were some above average teenagers… They were also experts in business and capitalism. They knew Jack of the “Box” fame could have offered a little more meat and still made a profit… Jack is greedy after all…

The boys talked in detail of their strategic plans for the following day. They had tickets to the Phoenix Open, where they would be hanging out, rubbing elbows with the stars. One of them referred to the event as, “American as it gets”! My offense and irritation faded to sadness…

This is what America means to many of the next generation. Our society has dropped the ball in our homes and in our schools. We’ve allowed the creeping poison of humanism to climb the walls, ceilings, and roofs of our institutions and the bodies, minds, and souls of our young people, and destroy the only things that have any real value in this world.

The lives and examples of character and principles are now scoffed at by a weak, decaying society. The strength that comes through discipline, perseverance, and honor, are foreign now to the next generation that will crumble under the first signs of adversity.

The world measures the best things in life with its senses… with no sense of what wisdom is or means.

The best things in life come from within. The foundation of which is the spirit of God Himself. It’s the principle traits carried out in the flesh, that start in our soul which determine the value of our lives and what we value on this life.

As the kids pulled out of the parking lot, I watched them turn and punch it…

I smiled. ┬áMaybe there’s hope for them after all…
